This document summarizes the Infant and Young Child Nutrition Project's review of more than 30 years of studies examining food security and nutrition impacts of agricultural projects in low-income countries. Findings revealed that it is possible to anticipate food security and nutrition impacts and that agricultural projects can be oriented in ways that maximize positive outcomes.

International Medical Corps led a training and assessment among Syrian refugees in Azraq Camp in July 2016. The purpose of the study was to better understand if and how refugees can meet energy and nutrient requirements using local foods; the extent to which economic poverty and typical dietary habits prevented households and vulnerable individuals in Azraq from consuming a nutritious diet; and to inform nutrition and food security program design and policy within Azraq Camp. The training component sought to strengthen the capacity of key partners in the Cost of the Diet methodology.

The Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance Project (FANTA) Project has facilitated nutrition advocacy in several countries using a nutrition advocacy tool, PROFILES, and has developed country-specific nutrition costing models. The estimates generated from this tool and models are the cornerstone of this nutrition advocacy process.

The Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance Project (FANTA) Project, in collaboration with Cote d’Ivoire’s National Nutrition Program, developed nutrition assessment, counseling and support job aids for health facilities providers. The job aids consist of 43 user-friendly visual aids with step-by-step instructions to assess and categorize clients’ nutritional status and provide appropriate nutrition counseling and treatment.

This state-of-the-art, user-friendly guide is for program managers and planners conducting a maternal and child health and nutrition assessments to investigate intra-household roles and influence. The guide introduces a holistic, or systemic, framework that can assist program staff to more effectively identify key priority groups for interventions. After learning about the development and key concepts and the methodology, one is taken step-by-step through the assessment process, complete with case examples, sample tools, and diagrams.

Given the need to strengthen nutrition services within health systems, the Strengthening Partnerships, Results, and Innovations in Nutrition Globally (SPRING) project has explored the advantages and disadvantages of two approaches they use in Haiti for rolling out trainings on infant and young child feeding and nutrition assessment, counseling, and support for health facility staff. Specifically, they looked at an on-the-job training methodology and the more traditional approach of workshop-style trainings.
