Understanding and responding to social norms is critical for achieving nutrition goals. The Passages Project legacy webinar shared a wealth of resources and lessons from implementation research on social norms to achieve sustained improvements in reproductive health and well-being.

Accomplishments of this program include increased and diversified crop and livestock production, increased access to markets and community capacity to withstand seasonal shocks and stresses, and reduced distress migration. It has also improved children’s health and nutrition; women’s empowerment; and water, sanitation, health, and education services. Future efforts include strengthening program integration and access to land, reinforcing linkages with local energy and water investments, enhancing local food system investments, and strengthening social cohesion.

After receiving oral iron, children with chronic iron deficiency demonstrated improved iron status, but continued to have lower cognitive scores compared with children with initial iron sufficiency. Future research could examine outcomes of a screening strategy for the early detection of iron deficiency using serum ferritin. This article is behind a paywall.

Wealth-related gaps in cognitive development found during early childhood increased in middle childhood. Maternal factors, quality of home environment, and child nutritional status mitigated this gap in early childhood more than in middle childhood. Interventions to improve home environment quality, maternal education, well-being, and child nutrition status may help reduce developmental deficits associated with poverty.

This study found that parental employment in the agricultural sector was associated with poorer quality of child supervision and child development and lower levels of early childhood care, education program attendance, and women’s empowerment compared with nonagricultural employment.
USAID Nutrition Resource Hub
This manual is designed to be an aid to facilitate training workshops for agricultural extension officers working under the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Urban Gardens Program. The training aims to improve participants’ knowledge of nutrition and to build skills in integrating nutrition education into existing agriculture activities. The manual also includes nutrition education activities for use with adult caregivers and orphans and vulnerable children. The manual lays out the structure for 11 training sessions, including estimates for time and suggested exercises.
