There is broad agreement that nutrition is a multi-sectoral problem, yet nutrition-related services are often still delivered in sector-specific silos. Recognizing the many factors affecting nutrition, countries around the world have developed multi-sectoral strategies, policies, and plans for addressing malnutrition. The Strengthening Partnerships, Results, and Innovations in Nutrition Globally (SPRING) project believes that program designers, planners, and implementers must work together with a range of stakeholders to create a shared vision of what is needed, who will do it, and how.

Young children, adolescent girls, and pregnant and lactating women in rural Niger are at high risk for inadequate intake of multiple micronutrients, especially vitamin A and iron.

Feeding difficulties can negatively impact children’s growth and development, as well as the quality of life for themselves and their families. To better understand needs and opportunities in this area, USAID Advancing Nutrition conducted a scoping review of programs supporting nutritional care of children with feeding difficulties and disabilities. The review found insufficient policies, programs, and evidence to support children with feeding difficulties and disabilities, as well as their families.

Social and behavior change (SBC) puts people at the heart of problem-solving because human behavior –what people do– is central to all nutrition outcomes. Innovations from behavioral science are needed to accelerate change, as programs continue to apply proven SBC best practice that centers strategies and solutions on people’s needs is fundamental to achieving nutrition goals.
