This report reviews the social and behavior change (SBC) methods and approaches used in 11 programs carried out by the Office of Food for Peace. It includes a description of the fundamentals of SBC theory and practice, current consensus on SBC global best practices, SBC approaches used by current and recent developmet food security activities and how well they are aligned with best practices, strengths and weaknesses in implementation, and recommendations for the Office of Food for Peace to improve the impact of SBC in their work.

This literature review was conducted to identify barriers to food choice and consumption during pregnancy and lactation and to examine how low‐ and middle‐income countries have addressed maternal nutrition in programs. It included a review of peer‐reviewed and gray literature and titles and abstracts reviewed by authors. Twenty‐three studies were included in this review.

This brief presents a summary of a literature review of barriers to maternal nutrition and weight gain during pregnancy in low- and middle-income countries. The brief presents a compilation of country policies that address maternal diet and weight gain during pregnancy, and provides key considerations for inclusion of maternal nutrition and weight gain during pregnancy into program design and implementation.

How significantly do maternal depression and anxiety affect early childhood development in food-insecure households? The authors of this study found that infants who have depressed mothers living in mildly and moderately food-insecure households were more likely to experience early childhood development delays compared to their counterparts in food-secure households. Having a mother with both depression and anxiety increased that likelihood further.

Caregivers and health care workers caring for children through the current pandemic can listen to this series of podcasts on child development for advice and support. The podcasts cover a range of topics on how best to protect child development in the context of COVID-19, including the importance of caregiver mental health, how children can safely receive care from their pediatrician, and how to mitigate the effects on children as the virus disproportionately affects communities of color.
