In the 2012 WHO Recommendations for the Prevention and Treatment of Postpartum Haemorrhage, WHO reiterated its previous recommendation of waiting to clamp and cut the umbilical cord following the birth of the baby. The purpose of this brief is to describe the benefits of the intervention and why it is not currently being used, so that delayed cord clamping can be supported and promoted as a best practice by maternal health, newborn health, HIV, and nutrition professionals.

Growth monitoring and promotion (GMP) involves regularly measuring children, assessing growth adequacy, and linking children to tailored counseling and referral resources. It is designed to identify and prevent growth faltering before it becomes severe and potentially irreversible. Over 170 countries use GMP as a way to connect children and their caregivers to preventive care and essential child health, nutrition, and development services. However, the quality of GMP implementation continues to vary, and its enduring challenges provide ample opportunities for improvement.

The DHS Dataset Users (2021 edition) course presents relevant knowledge and skills to understand and use DHS data, and to begin using DHS data for your own analysis. The course will provide an opportunity to practice these skills using standardized DHS model datasets, and provide you with a better understanding of DHS surveys, sample design, and data structure.

Food Systems Toolkit

The Global Diet Quality project developed the Diet Quality Questionnaire (DQQ), a standardized, easy-to-use, 5-minute survey for collecting comparable food group consumption data. You can visit their website to access the DQQ and other tools to monitor trends and compare diet quality in and across countries and sectors. The project is collecting a suite of diet quality indicators that support monitoring across different population groups (age, gender, income, etc.), which will be available soon.

The Global Individual Food Consumption Data Tool (GIFT) is an online platform that includes regularly updated data food safety and nutrition data from around the world. You can visit the platform to access quantitative food consumption data from national and local level surveys, food based indicators, and microdata, which can be downloaded for further analysis. GIFT aims to support programmers and decision makers to make informed decisions related to food safety and nutrition.
