This review was conducted to derive an umbrella summary of meta-analyses performed to evaluate the effects and associations of iron supplementation or iron status on maternal and birth/neonatal outcomes. Evidence from 16 meta-analyses suggests beneficial effects of multiple-micronutrient supplementation on some neonatal outcomes.
Qualitative Research Instrument on Perceptions of Anemia and Use of Iron Tablets—The Indramayu Project, Indonesia

This research instrument, which was developed by the Manoff Group for the USAID-funded MotherCare Project, was used in formative research for the Indramayu Project. One component of research tested ways to improve the existing iron supplementation program for pregnant women in this Indonesian region.
This article provides a framework for understanding the population-specific epidemiology and pathophysiology of anemia globally. The authors used the systematic approach of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors 2013 study to elucidate levels and trends of anemia-related disability.
National Strategy for Anaemia Prevention and Control in Bangladesh

This National Strategy aimed to reduce the prevalence of anemia among high-risk groups in Bangladesh by 2015 by 25 percent. This Cambell Systematic Review synthesizes the evidence pertaining to the impact of differing types and frequency of deworming drugs on anemia, cognition, and growth across potential effect modifiers. Evidence from 19 studies suggests little effect on nutritional status or cognition; however, children with heavier-intensity infections may benefit more.

The MotherCare Project, a USAID-funded program, was aimed at preventing maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity. The project included activities that engaged in a series of applied research initiatives and offered short-term technical and training support. Examples of resources developed for use in Indonesia include pill reminders and other communication materials.
