This report presents an outline of the strategy designed to control anemia in Nepal. The objectives include 1) to increase the distribution of and compliance with iron supplements in pregnant women; 2) to control parasite infection in women and children; 3) to control vitamin A deficiency in women and children; 4) to identify the possibility of iron fortification in foods; 5) to promote various foods with increased iron content and bioavailability; 6) to strengthen maternity services for improvement of maternal and child health; 7) to identify and enforce effective measures to decrease anemia in children, adolescent girls, and women of reproductive age; and 8) to develop a systematic method for monitoring and evaluation of anemia control programs.
