USAID Nutrition Resource Hub

A skilled workforce is critical for the provision of nutrition services at the frontline or primary care level and, ultimately, achieving better health outcomes. For frontline providers of nutrition services to detect potential nutrition issues; support treatment; and facilitate prevention through counseling, supplementation, and treatment of underlying issues, educational institutions must equip them with the necessary competencies.
USAID Nutrition Resource Hub

Investing in pre-service training is an especially effective and sustainable approach to improving nutrition services at scale. However, it requires a collaborative effort by all stakeholders—government ministries, academic institutions, professional associations, funders, and technical experts—to ensure curricula prepare frontline health workers to deliver quality nutrition services.

This training package aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of health workers to collect, compile, and report timely, complete, and quality nutrition data, and the importance of quality data for evidence-based decision making. Quality data and the capacity to use them will greatly improve coverage and delivery of nutrition services based on informed decision making, thus contributing to elimination of malnutrition. The package includes a facilitator manual, a reference manual, and several PowerPoint presentations.
