This study reviewed two poultry projects in Bangladesh and documented lessons learned, gaps, and recommendations for integrating nutrition in agricultural interventions and delivering nutrition-sensitive agriculture. The study looked at how the projects integrated nutrition into agriculture extension services, what approaches were used, what the main nutrition-sensitive interventions were, what capacity building/development and training was carried out, and what perceptions among staff and beneficiaries were regarding the impact of the project.

Mothers and infants at risk of poor growth and development should be cared for as a unit and breastfeeding support is critical. Not all children with moderate wasting need specially formulated food and programmers should prioritize those who need this support based on certain risk factors. All children with moderate wasting need a health assessment to rule out medical problems and access to a nutrient-dense diet. Community health workers can support most children within the community setting if trained and given supervision and support.

Adolescent Nutrition Resource Bank

Vida Saludable, an initiative led by the Government of Mexico, aimed to reduce the incidence of obesity in adolescents and school-going children in the country. As part of this initiative, the government introduced a new subject to the curriculum called Healthy Living, offered training to teachers, and implemented the program in an innovative way using national televsion, radio, or the internet to disseminate interactive games and deliver food diaries.

To address gaps in existing nutrition counseling packages, USAID Advancing Nutrition worked with an external technical advisory group of experts in ECD, nutrition, and social and behavior change to develop counseling and training materials, known as the Responsive Care and Early Learning (RCEL) Addendum package.

The purpose of this assessment is to collect data on nutrition-specific actions performed by health workers at different levels with the health care service-delivery system. Data that are gathered include nutrition workforce size, composition, qualification, availability, gaps, and training status within different levels of the health facility.
