In an effort to measure the effectiveness of lipid-based nutrients for improving birth outcomes and child development and growth, the Rang-Din Nutrition Study was undertaken in rural Bangladesh from 2011 to 2015. It was a cluster-randomized trial designed to test the effectiveness of two lipid-based nutrient supplements (one developed for women during pregnancy and the first 6 months postpartum and another developed for children ages 6–24 months) in reducing maternal and child undernutrition during the 1,000 day window, and hence improving selected indicators of maternal and child health and development. This report focuses on newborn stunting and stunting at 18 months of age.
