This Cochrane Systematic Review synthesizes the evidence pertaining to the benefits to both mother and infant of multiple‐micronutrient supplements in pregnancy, and aims to assess the risk of adverse events as a result of supplementation. Evidence from 23 studies suggests that multiple‐micronutrient supplementation reduced the number of low birthweight and small‐for‐gestational age babies when compared with supplementation with two or fewer micronutrients, iron–folic acid supplements, no supplementation, or a placebo.
