Nutrition of Adolescent Girls and Women of Reproductive Age in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: Current Context and Scientific Basis for Moving Forward
USAID/SPRING and PAHO commissioned this paper to summarize existing information on the current nutritional status of adolescent girls, women of reproductive age and pregnant and lactating women in LMICs, in order to inform key practices (similar to those developed for young children), that characterize the diet and feeding practices for these groups.

This paper outlines the results of a qualitative evaluation of a social media campaign to promote healthy eating among urban adolescent girls (15-19) in Indonesia. The social media campagin was considered acceptable by the adolescents. They reported finding it informative in terms of health risks of unhealthy diets and motivational to change their current eating habits.

This project brief describes the impact of the Adolescent Girls' Empowerment Program (AGEP) on nutrition. AGEP enrolled >11,000 vulnderable adolescent girls, approximately half of whom were randomized to receive nutrition training sessions (3 for younger adolescents, 5 for older adolescents) as part of the AGEP curriculum.

This curriculum, developed in Zambia and adapted for the Kenyan context, aims to provide health education (reproductive health, nutrition, life skills) in weekly "safe space" groups, led by a mentor.
The Malawi Multi-Sectoral Adolescent Nutrition Strategy for 2019-2023 adopts a multi-sectoral approach to improving adolescent nutrition. Focus areas include undernutrition, overnutrition, adolescent empowerment, positive behavior change, communicable diseases, creating an enabling environment for nutrition interventions and monitoring and evaluation systems.
Strengthening Nutrition-Specific Policies for Adolescents in Indonesia: A Qualitative Policy Analysis

This document presents highlights from the a baseline survey (2019) in 2 regions of Ethiopia. Dietary diversity was low and food insecurity was common. The study also found that ~30% of adolescent girls missed 1+ days of school in the prior week. Adolescents received limited exposure to nutrition messages at school and in their communities.
