The Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Community Nutrition Training package was initially developed under a strategic partnership between the Strengthening Partnerships, Results, and Innovations in Nutrition Globally (SPRING) project, managed by the JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc., and Digital Green, with generous financial support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

Results of a review by USAID Advancing Nutrition emphasize the importance of promoting responsive caregiving and early learning, and supplementing training to ensure that health workers can tailor counseling to individual breastfeeding challenges, particularly in emergency contexts. Training to encourage greater consumption of unprocessed or minimally processed foods and reduced consumption of foods with limited nutritional value may also be appropriate.

The Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance Project (FANTA) Project developed a package of nutrition assessment, counseling, and support training materials for facility-based providers in Zambia to improve their nutrition knowledge and skills. The training package includes a facilitators guide, participant handouts, and a set of PowerPoint slides to reinforce the training.

Designing nutrition-sensitive agriculture activities means more than just producing more nutrient-rich foods. USAID Advancing Nutrition’s Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture Design Guide provides practical guidance to help implementing partners train their staff to plan and implement nutrition-sensitive agriculture activities. It includes a detailed facilitator’s guide and accompanying slides for a three-day workshop intended for teams of newly-awarded Feed the Future agriculture projects and others working to improve nutrition-sensitive agriculture.

The purpose of the training package is to provide support for improving nutrition in Malawi by strengthening the capacity of community-level workers and volunteers to provide nutrition guidance and support. The package includes curriculum counseling cards, key message booklet, recipe book, and supervision guidelines with national and district-level supervision checklists.
