This brief summarizes a review of literature on community breastfeeding support programs to inform the creation and implementation of similar programs. It contains large amounts of information on types of interventions, program designs, and program impacts. The review makes several general recommendations for programs. First, it includes recommended models that have historically been successful. Second, it recommends strengthening specific aspects of extant programs whenever possible. Third, it recommends supporting community action through the whole health system.

Researchers evaluated 32 responsive caregiving and early learning projects in 17 low- and middle-income countries on 4 continents to identify human resources and curricula critical for program implementation. Human resources themes that emerged range from worker characteristics and incentives to training and supervision.

This learning brief details the results of the Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) Early Childhood Development (ECD) 0-3 program initiative in Ghana. The report details significant gains in short-term knowledge transfer and retention of ECD practices among health workers in both implementation regions between the first two years of the project. MSCP found significant increases in psychosocial stimulation and responsive care practices for caregivers.
