Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Resource Review
Growth assessment, analysis of growth status, and counseling are important factors in measuring growth monitoring and promotion (GMP). Research finds that providers and beneficiaries view GMP as secondary to curative services. Distance, long lines, and crying children hinder engagement, while provider knowledge, skills, and training are barriers. Community‐ and home‐based interventions with trained and supervised community‐based providers may be superior to facility‐based options.

The foundation of the RCEL Addendum is a set of seven illustrated counseling cards that include key messages and practical tips for counselors to share with caregivers. The counseling cards are complemented by job aids for counselors on topics such as steps for structuring counseling visits and tips to support children with disabilities during counseling sessions. The package also includes training materials—a facilitator’s guide, training aid, and participant handouts—and a guide for planning, adaptation, and implementation.
Adolescent Nutrition Resource Bank
This project brief describes the impact of the Adolescent Girls' Empowerment Program (AGEP) on nutrition. AGEP enrolled >11,000 vulnderable adolescent girls, approximately half of whom were randomized to receive nutrition training sessions (3 for younger adolescents, 5 for older adolescents) as part of the AGEP curriculum. The intervention increased knowledge of the causes of anemia, but did not increase other nutrition knowledge, dietary diversity or nutritional outcomes.
Activity
To increase USAID staff’s core knowledge of nutrition concepts, USAID and USAID Advancing Nutrition developed a course that would prepare them to respond to the increasing need to strategically integrate nutrition into programming as part of their current or future roles.
In project year (PY) four, USAID Advancing Nutrition collaborated with three U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) bureaus—the Bureau for Resilience and Food Security, the Bureau for Global Health, and the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance—to develop and pilot the Nutrition Fundamentals Course.
Activity
USAID Advancing Nutrition collaborated with the Government of Nigeria to conduct six one-day trainings in aflatoxin mitigation in groundnuts and other staple crops.

The Strengthening Partnerships, Results, and Innovations in Nutrition Globally (SPRING) project developed the Landscape Analysis Guidance Tool and the District Assessment Tool for Anemia to assist countries in strengthening anemia programming. SPRING held an interactive, hands-on training in Washington, DC, to consolidate program learning from the implementation of the tools in countries. The training gave participants a comprehensive understanding of the tools and demonstrated how countries can use them to plan anemia interventions at both national and district levels.
