This brief summarizes the Mamachiponde study, a randomized controlled clinical trial conducted in rural Malawi with pregnant women who were moderately malnourished. The trial was designed to determine whether a ready-to-use supplementary food or a fortified corn-soy blend along with a daily multiple micronutrient antenatal supplement would improve maternal weight gain from the onset of supplemental feeding until the last clinic visit before delivery and would improve infant birth weight and supplemental feeding until the last clinic visit before delivery and would improve infant birth weight and length outcomes compared to the standard of care, fortified corn-soy blend with a daily iron and folic acid tablet.
