This report summarizes the achievements of the Nurturing Care Framework, including the development of new global measures for population-level assessments of early child development (ECD), an extensive research repository, and ECD profiles for 197 countries. Priorities include using new measures and locally generated evidence and data to inform policy, planning, budgeting, and financing, stimulating initiatives at subnational levels and in communities, strengthening systems capacity, and producing local evidence about interventions that improve ECD outcomes and reduce inequities.

Women’s Empowerment: An Essential Ingredient for Improved Nutrition in India

Participants in this study prioritized joint decision-making between women and men about agriculture-related household assets and women’s use of improved practices to grow nutrient-dense vegetables and fruits or to fish for household consumption and sales. Using a human-centered design approach, participants identified interventions to address harmful gender and social norms, including nutrition-sensitive agriculture training and exposure visits, that let women visit other successful female producers to learn about their experiences and practices.

Governments can also strengthen food security and nutrition by building food; health; and water, sanitation, and hygiene systems.

This evaluation found improved coverage of maternal nutrition topics among women in Ethiopia who attended antenatal care visits and high levels of health worker satisfaction with the intervention package. Authors recommend programming to strengthen and improve access to social protection measures and agricultural initiatives for vulnerable families with adolescents and help adolescents develop life skills to encourage good nutrition.
