In the Kyrgyz Republic, in Central Asia, 46 percent of children under 6 months are exclusively breastfed, and 22 percent of children 20–23 months continue to receive breast milk. WHO and UNICEF updated the Ten Steps and provided guidance on new strategies for countries to improve BFHI implementation and breastfeeding practices. The objective of this qualitative case study is to explore how the Kyrgyz Republic codifies and carries out national responsibility 3, health professional competency building.
