The conditions and nature of informal employment shape maternal and child health outcomes. Delaying the mother's return to work, increasing the proximity between mother and child, ensuring greater knowledge of breastfeeding and early childhood development practices, improving problem solving capacity and agency of the mother, and providing enabling home and workplace conditions are important interventions.
