This technical brief outlines the strategic objectives and critical accomplishments of the Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) Early Childhood Development (ECD) initiative in Ghana, where almost 20 percent of children under 5 are stunted and more than a quarter of children age 3-5 are delayed in their physical and cognitive development. Because early stimulation and strong caregiver relationships have a positive impact on child development, the initiative aimed to strengthen caregiver knowledge of early stimulation and increase the ability of frontline health workers to promote and practice early stimulation techniques at the community level.
