Globally, 677.6 million adults are obese and 49.5 million children under five are wasted while another 40.1 million are overweight. The impact of increasing conflict, climate-related insecurity, and other crises on efforts to reduce malnutrition is clear. However, recent literature suggests progress in preventing and treating malnutrition can be supported by strengthening nutrition pre-service training content.

How? Around the world, facilities and communities depend on health workers to detect nutrition issues, support treatment, and facilitate the prevention of malnutrition. But to fulfill this responsibility, they need the right knowledge, skills, and attitudes (competencies) to provide high-quality nutrition services.
