Global malnutrition is a complex problem, caused by multiple drivers that require a multi-sectoral approach that considers how health, agriculture, economic development and other sectors can work together to achieve global nutrition goals. USAID, in partnership with USAID Advancing Nutrition, produced a series of animated videos to illustrate how the Agency is addressing various underlying or systemic causes of inadequate nutrition. The videos articulate the importance of multi-sectoral approaches and USAID’s nutrition priorities and actions through storytelling.

Storytelling can be an effective tool for galvanizing action for nutrition. Each of the 1-4 minute animated videos breaks down the complexity of USAID’s multi-sectoral nutrition programming by highlighting the various ways USAID is supporting nutrition efforts around the world. While brief by design, the animations capture key elements of USAID’s commitments to nutrition and investments aimed at boosting prosperity and enhancing the health and livelihoods of vulnerable populations, an important element of USAID’s communication efforts around the Nutrition for Growth global pledging moment where USAID pledged additional commitment to end malnutrition. Select a topic of interest to view the associated video and learn more.

Good nutrition is critical to achieving global development goals—including eradicating poverty, preventing maternal and child deaths, providing a foundation for the economic growth of a country, empowering women, and improving the health of individuals and communities. USAID, along with partners, work with countries to empower people with the skills, tools, and resources to improve their families’ health, diets, and nutrition, especially early in life when it matters most.

For more than 40 years, USAID has promoted breastfeeding to save lives, prevent malnutrition, and enhance the long-term health and prosperity of women and children. By promoting breastfeeding in programs and policies, USAID is helping families chart productive and prosperous lives for their children and supporting communities to thrive.

Vitamins and minerals—often referred to as micronutrients—are vital to healthy development, disease prevention, and wellbeing. That's why USAID has supported 34 countries around the world with food fortification to ensure families can access essential nutrients during times of crises to protect the health of future generations.

Women and girls have unique nutritional requirements throughout the life cycle—especially during adolescence, before and during pregnancy, and while breastfeeding. In particular, the nutritional vulnerability of mothers is the greatest during the 1,000 days between pregnancy and a child’s second birthday, which is a critical period of growth and development. USAID’s investments seek to protect nutrition throughout the lifecycle to ensure that all women and children are well-nourished and able to live healthy and productive lives.
