USAID’s 40+ year effort to promote and protect breastfeeding has reached families, communities, health systems, governments, and development partners around the world. The cognitive and health benefits of breastfeeding are clear —for every year a mother breastfeeds, her risk of developing breast cancer is reduced by 6 percent. For infants, breast milk provides ideal nutrition and significantly reduces the risk of contracting deadly diseases.
USAID, with support from USAID Advancing Nutrition and Eidolon Films, produced this new animated video highlighting the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and babies. The one-minute animation outlines how the Agency is working with partners to promote educational programming on optimal breastfeeding and provide access to skilled breastfeeding counseling for communities and families. At the core of USAID’s efforts is the commitment to furthering breastfeeding as a shared responsibility among communities, not a one-woman job.
